Thought of the Week . . .
by Howard Jordan
DEMOGRAPHICS IS DESTINY. New census figures show that Latinos number 50 million, 16.3 percent of the nation and represent half the growth of the U.S population. Latinos represent 23 percent of all children age 17 or younger. In New York City Latinos make up 29 percent, African Americans 23 percent, Asians 13 percent of the population while whites dropped 3 percent. We are in a majority-minority city. Why do elected officials, policy makers, and media outlets continue to operate to exclude our folks from the circles of power in white-only scenarios? We can only truly become a multicultural society when all parts of our country are at the table- E Pluribus Unum
